Each year I choose a word that I want to represent the year as a whole.
I use it as sort of a guideline when I’m planning for the year, and it helps serve as a good reminder too when I need to stay focused.
Staying focused can be difficult when things get busy or stressful. My husband always tells me, there’s always going to be something. It’s very true, unfortunately! That’s why I need a good plan in place to help serve me better when those things do come up.
I think the word I chose works as sort of a reinforcement for that plan.
Also, I just want to note that you don’t have to push yourself to exhaustion for your goals. It’s important to take time for rest and give yourself grace through the process. From what I learned last year, it’s all about creating sustainable habits that support your goals and your wellbeing.
I want to have a healthy balance of working as hard as I can, and still listening to my body when I need actual rest/time to process things when life gets a little crazy.
My Word of the Year
My word of the year for 2023 is consistent.
I went back and forth between a few words (as I usually do, haha!) and almost settled on committed, but I felt consistent described best how I was feeling about this year.
I think consistency is what I’ve struggled with the most over the last year. We had a lot of sadness with people passing away, probably the most difficult was my grandpa. Plus, my grandma was really sick too and still is. It was just hard to stay consistent through that for me. If I’m not careful, I’m afraid it will end up the same way this year.
While we don’t have kids, besides our furbabies, a lot of my time goes towards taking care of others – between parents and my grandma. I wouldn’t have it any other way! I just have to use my time as wisely as possible and make sure that my goals are scheduled in just like other appts and errands.
So with all of that being said, my goal is to truly stay consistent throughout this year. I want to keep doing what needs to be done each day to make this blog community grow and see where it can really go this year. Also, I want to do the things that make me a healthier and happier person because it helps me serve others better too!
I hope that you enjoyed this quick little post on my word of the year, friends!
I’d love to hear what your word of the year is, if you have one, and how your new year is going so far!
Crystal Green says
This made me laugh because that is my word of the year too!! See I told you we are kindred spirits with similar missions!!
Make Life Marvelous says
That is too funny, Crystal! You are so right! We are going to do great with this word. 🙂
That is such a good word! It’s easy to start good habits, but it’s hard to be consistent with them. I really like how it can apply to so much!
Thanks so much, Laura! 🙂 I completely agree with you, sometimes things just get a little hectic and it’s hard to keep things consistent. I really am trying to apply this to all things in my life this year. Fingers crossed!
I love your word! Committed is great but you are committed in so many ways. Consistent is much more concise and manageable in my opinion. My word is patience and it will take a lot to stick with it. Lol! Happy New Year Ashley!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! 🙂 I love your word too, it’s SO good! Haha, you will do fantastic, my friend. I totally get where you’re coming from though. I used to feel like I had a lot of patience, but that seems to change the older I get, but I do try my best! Happy New Year to you friend!
You know, I love this concept. I’ve never made a word for the year, but this just makes so much sense. I think it will really help you focus on your priorities. Great choice and wish you all the best this year!
Thanks so much, Kristen! I’m truly hoping to keep it in the forefront of my mind as I go through each day of this year. I appreciate the well wishes so much, my friend! 🙂
Thanks for sharing. Greetings!
Aww, thanks so much for reading!
This is actually a great idea! I think mine would definitely be BOUNDARIES working from home that’s one thing I struggle with which people take advantage of.
Thanks so much, Candice! 🙂 I love that idea, I completely agree with you! It’s so hard because others just see that you’re home, but just because you’re home doesn’t mean that you’re not working.
Consistent is a great word!! I actually haven’t chosen a word yet but I need to soon!

Thanks, Jennifer! I’m sure you’re going to pick an awesome word!
Woah I’m going to remember that…”there is always going to be something”. So good and so true. Amazing!!!
Hope you have a great 2023!!!

My husband gets all the credit for that one! I’ve just tried to adapt and put a plan in place for when those moments pop up. 🙂 Hope you have the best 2023, Radi!
I don’t set a word for the year myself but I’m always interested in reading about those that do – I think you picked a perfect word to keep you on track for the year with what you want to achieve! My problem is I just don’t think I could narrow it down to one word, haha!
Haha, I definitely get that! And hey, there’s no rule that says you can’t choose more than one word if you want! 🙂 I really like reading what others’ words are too and just reading their insight on it.
Loving the word consistent for the year! It feels realistic and relatable. 😍
Aww, thank you SO much Autumn!! <3
So right on this, easy to start good habits but being consistent can also be very hard.

It truly can be, just so many things can come up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I can stay consistent throughout any chaos! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Melody!
My word of the year is “let it go” 🙂 In my language is one word, in english three 😉
Oh, that is so neat that it’s all one word, I love that! 🙂 And I truly love the sentiment of letting it go. There’s so many times we get caught up in things that we need to learn to let go to have peace.
Consistent is such a good word! I know when I was doing my marathon training several years ago, my coach always brought that word up. She said you have to be consistent or you’re not going to be able to finish this training for the race. I’ve always remembered that and it really is true for more things in life than just your workout goals!!

Thank you so much, Jyoti! 🙂 Hope you have a fantastic day!!
Being consistent with a side hustle or hobby when you have a lot on your plate. I learned how to be consistent in design school but it is still challenging with a full time job. I wish you luck with it this year!!

I imagine design school was so much to juggle all on its own, let alone with a full-time job and just life in general popping up! You are amazing Allie, and I truly appreciate your kind words and well wishes! I’m going to do my very best! 🙂
I hope you achieve your goals, happy 2023 😀
Aww, thank you SO much Kinga! 🙂 Wishing you the brightest 2023!
This is such a great word of the year! I’m still hesitating between two (but maybe I should choose decisive 🤣).
