The leaves are starting to change here in Southern Ohio and what a beautiful sight it is.
I am a bit regretful that I haven’t taken time to truly appreciate all of the hills in my rural area. Today, I took a trip to Sam’s Club about 20 minutes away from me and really took in those pretty trees on the way. Some red hues, some orange or yellow, and some still green. No matter the color, it is a clear reminder that the fall season is here.
Summer may be my favorite season, but fall truly has a piece of my heart. There’s something really special about how the leaves start to change colors, they seem to take on a whole new life until winter arrives. I think the same can be said for each of us! We can choose something new that serves us well, and brings on a whole new life. Which means we can also allow some of the icky parts of our lives to fall on the ground just as the leaves, and release them from our hearts and our minds.
I’ve been a bit obsessed with learning about habits this year. Early on in the winter I started off with an awesome book about habits! There is just something that fascinates me about how the habits we have in our lives, regardless of whether they are good or bad, make up our entire lifestyle! So that means the habits we have are really important, and they’re going to affect all the other facets of our lifestyle too. I have two books on habits that I’m trying to get through by the end of this month, and I’m looking forward to sharing those with you later on!
I’ve thought about a few habits that I’d like to develop and nurture throughout the fall months, and I’m sharing those with you today!
Exercise 3x Per Week
I’m not sure if I shared this yet, but we bought a treadmill around June-ish! Kyle and I have really wanted to get in better shape, but honestly, it has been really tough to get to the gym. I know that’s all about mindset and you have to make yourself go, but it just didn’t seem to work for us.
We got a Sole TT8 treadmill and sadly it hasn’t been used very much. I call it our very expensive cat bed, haha! We were afraid the cats would get their claws in the belt, either by accident or just thinking it’s some sort of scratch pad, so we covered it up with a blanket. Now both cats really like sleeping on it!
I’ve talked about wanting to get on it so often throughout the past few months, but as of last week, I finally made it happen! My goal is very simple, at least to start with. I just want to get on it three times per week. I’m not tying myself down to a particular day, just as long as I get in those days. I have been consciously trying to stay on it for like 15-20 minutes each time, and I’ve also been walking for 3 minutes and then running for 1 minute, and so on.
If you follow me over on Instagram (if not, you can check out my page right here!), you’ve been seeing my posts when I do hop on the treadmill. I’m trying to get better at sharing on my stories, and I think it’s helpful for a couple of other reasons too. It’s great for accountability for me, and I really want to share with you that if you have something you’ve been wanting to get to, but may have put it off for whatever reason – now is the perfect time to get started, if you can!
I’m not going to sugar coat it, I feel like death when I get off the treadmill, haha! But I feel so much better after I take a hot shower and then get started with my day. So it’s very much worth it to me and I hope to get better with the treadmill, and make it a true habit.
Clean Up Unnecessary Spending
I think I’m cringing as I type this because I haven’t been good about this in the past few months! But that’s exactly why I need to add it to this list of habits I want to cultivate this fall. It’s never too late, right?
Over the years, I’ve shared no-spends that I’ve done and in those posts, I’ve always had the same issues – buying food (fast food/restaurant) and coffee out. It’s the very same this year. I really am good about not spending much on myself, as far as clothes, stuff for the house, etc. Sadly, I am so so so bad about buying food or coffee out of convenience and coffee just makes my heart happy, haha!
My specific goal with cleaning up unnecessary spending is to buy coffee out only once-or-twice per week (still a little flexible!) and the same for buying food out. I did fairly well with this last week when I started, but have definitely got food more often than planned this week. Nonetheless, I really want to work on this and I think if I set my mind to it, I can develop this habit fully and get much better at it.
Make More Food at Home + Share Here!
Just as the other two habits I want to cultivate this fall, making more food at home helps develop a healthier version of myself.
I’ve had several requests for more recipes here on the blog and while I’ve always wanted to get around to that, I’ve fell flat on my face, haha! I already make food at home, but I’ve really slacked on taking the photos and writing out recipes to upload here. So I’d love to change that this season!
That’s a wrap, friends! I hope you enjoyed reading about the habits I want to cultivate this fall. I’d love to hear if you’re working on any new habits too. Also, are any of the habits I mentioned ones that you already have as part of your day-to-day?
Mica - Away From The Blue says
Good luck with your new habits and goals! I have definitely been focusing on reducing my spending this year – although I have spent mor eon fashion than last year I’m still under budget thankfully!
Hope you are having a great weekend 🙂
Thank you tons, Mica, I truly appreciate it! 🙂 That’s awesome that you’re still under budget and I know you’re so smart when it comes to picking out great deals, so I have no doubt you’re doing amazing!
It’s a good one so far, my friend! I hope you’re enjoying yours, too! 🙂
These are great habits! Cooking more healthily + cutting out Uber Eats has been a big one for me over the past few months and it’s helped me cut down my spending massively!

That is awesome, Mia! That makes me very excited to stay focused on those goals, I’m sure it will help a lot with my spending too!
Hahah expensive cat bed. I feel that. Do you have an AKT by you? If you do, I think you will love the classes!

Haha, yes, I know you love your cats too! I wish I had one of those! We just have a local YMCA here, but they do have some classes I could join. Your classes always look fun when you share them on IG!
Wow this is nice, great habits for fall

Aww, thank you Melody!! 🙂
I really need to cook more at home now that volleyball is almost done and our evenings won’t be AS crazy. We’ve been using Door Dash a little too often. Iced coffee as you know is one of my favorite splurges! I’m so excited you’re getting on the treadmill 3x a week! That is what I do, 3 times a week… but, I try to get outside on Saturday one of those days if my schedule allows it. I agree, I need to get outside for a walk or two before this beautiful fall foliage is gone! I need to check out that habit book, it sounds so interesting!

You are definitely a busy bee, my friend, it’s more than understandable! Haha, you and me both on the iced coffee note! I appreciate all your encouragement – you’re a big part of why I’m getting on the treadmill and trying to run!
I like all these habits that you want to stick with. You made me laugh when you said you feel like death when you start on the treadmill. I feel ya but stick with it my friend. Working out is hard but so good. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these habits books. Sounds like a great upcoming post!

Thank you, Kathrine! Haha, I figured that may get a laugh or two! I truly appreciate it, I’m hanging in here and after maybe about a month of doing it a few times of week, I’m starting to feel a little better when I’m finished. Plus, the overall feeling of knowing I did it even when I didn’t want to, is enough to keep me going right now!
Exercising more and eating healthier are two habits I’m trying to cultivate right now too. I get plenty of cardio in but need to focus on strength training again. When I don’t want to workout, I always tell myself to do it for 5 minutes, and once I get going, I’m fine.
Jill – Doused in Pink
That’s awesome, Jill! I love that you’re trying to get both cardio and strength training in. I hope that once I really develop this habit on the treadmill, that I can fine tune it and separate different types of exercise into my week. I love that you have a five-minute rule! That sounds so simple and effective. Oftentimes, it is the getting started part that is the most difficult.
Great list! I’m trying to cook more at home lately. Good luck with your goals.

Good for you, Lovely! I know it’s a toughie, and thank you SO much!
Very interesting post! Great habits thanks for sharing ♥

Aww, thank you Adel for reading!
These are very good habits which you pick for yourself. Last year I stop with spending money on things which I don’t need but I would like also more time spent in making food and start to exercise because I exercise 3 days and than make pause of 3 months.
Thank you so much, friend! That’s fantastic that you stopped spending money on things you didn’t need – that’s a major task! Making more food at home and exercising are wonderful habits to adopt, and as you can tell in my post, I’m actively working on them too. We can do it! 🙂
These are great habits to cultivate! I’m trying to exercise more too – I even joined a gym…..

That’s fantastic! I hope you’re enjoying the gym! I’ve just been on the treadmill here at home, but we do have a membership to the local YMCA – sadly, we don’t really use it though.
So many fun things to look forward to this fall. I want to spend more time with family this fall.

Yes, Radi! I love that, it’s so important to take time to spend with our loved ones.
These are such great habits to cultivate! I am trying to work out more, and I feel the same as you after the treadmill!

Thank you tons! Yes, it really wipes me out, haha. It’s getting better though over time I think, and I hope the same for you. We can do it! 🙂
