How many of you experience the Sunday Scaries? That daunting feeling when you realize that tomorrow is Monday.
Even though it’s still your weekend, you start feeling this dark, heavy cloud of worry, doubt, or fear. I created this post just for you in efforts to help you learn how to beat the Sunday Scaries.
If you’re looking for a better way to enjoy your weekend and still prepare for your best week yet, then let’s explore together the following ways that can help you beat the Sunday Scaries!
1. Practice Self-Care
Do something that makes you happy! Maybe it’s drinking a warm cup of coffee, curling up in a cozy blanket and reading that novel you’ve been eyeing on your bookshelf, or even just taking a much-needed nap. Whatever you choose, be sure to devote time to taking care of you. You’re worth it.
Remember, self-care is not selfish! You spend so much of your time taking care of others and trying to keep up with everything in your life. You deserve to be happy and to surround yourself with things that you love.
2. Plan for the week ahead
My sweet husband is a golfer, so it’s no surprise I’ve watched my fair share of golf documentaries. When it comes to planning for the week ahead, I am always reminded by a quote from my husband’s favorite golfer, Jack Nicklaus. To add some context, Jack was talking about feeling nervous on the golf course. He said that the only time he ever felt nervous or worried was when he was unprepared.
When I heard those words, they really clicked with me. I could relate when thinking about times that I was concerned about work or when I was in college. I think we can totally use this quote for our purposes in getting a better start on the week ahead. Thanks, Jack!
Spending as little as an hour with your planner and a cup of your favorite beverage can alleviate so many concerns. Plus, it will give you an overall better vibe for what’s to come. Life is too short. We should look forward to each week instead of dreading it.
3. Be Present
This is so important to remember! Instead of worrying about tomorrow, enjoy today! When we get caught up in our worries, we tend to forget what is presently happening. Whether it be where we are, what we are doing, or even more important: who we are with.
I believe our relationships are the most important thing to nurture in our lives. We need to devote our hearts and our minds to being present and truly enjoying the time that we are spending with others.
4. Determine Why You’re Experiencing the Scaries
It’s all about mindset. This is the game changer! Think about why you’re anxious about Monday. It may be something new happening that you’re nervous about, or maybe this happens every Monday.
Grab a journal and jot down all of your concerns and then read them. Try to come up with solutions that would help you to stop stressing about these items.
Often times, after doing a brain dump, we can realize that a lot of our stressors aren’t worth our time or are not as bad as we think they are in the moment.
Think about the big picture and own the fact that you’ve survived every day that you didn’t think you could – you’re a winner!
5. Meal Prep
The best way to avoid splurging on fast food throughout the week or spending hours trying to figure out what you want for dinner is to meal prep your food on Sunday. If you have your lunches and dinners prepared in the fridge, you’re far less likely to order a pizza.
6. Do ALL the Laundry!
Monday morning before work is not the time to realize you didn’t wash your best dress pants, or that your husband doesn’t have any clean underwear (guilty!).
Getting all of your work/comfy clothes, and towels washed, dried and hung up/folded away is going to help you to feel more organized and put together all week long.
If you want to kick this step up a notch, you can set out your outfits for each day of the week so you don’t have to worry about what you’re going to wear each morning. This can be a huge time-saver!
I hope that this post has helped you learn some new ways for how to beat the Sunday Scaries!
Remember, you can accomplish absolutely everything you set your mind to this coming week (and every week after that!). When you feel doubt, anxiety, or worry creep in…just feel those emotions, recognize its just your brain trying to “protect” you, and show those negative thoughts who’s boss!

Great post! It’s funny because when I worked jobs that I didn’t like, the Sunday Scaries were a very common thing. But that I love my job…blogging…I actually look forward to Mondays when the kids return to school and I can sit down uninterrupted and do my thing! But for those who do experience the Sunday blues, these tips are fantastic! Being present is so important.

That’s awesome, Caitlin!! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and upcoming week!!😊
I like to stay home and do nothing on Sunday, it helps me get mentally prepared for the week ahead. I also do all my laundry and cleaning on Friday afternoons so I don’t have to clean over the weekend. It’s much easier to relax that way!
I love that, Rebecca!! I can imagine it definitely helps you relax more on the weekend. I think I’d like to adopt that idea. 🙂
Self-care is an absolute must-do indeed. And yes, having a plan for the week ahead helps you stay on the right track and get more things done after the week.
