What if all you needed to be happy was to give yourself permission?
Take a pause and think about that for a moment. Could it really be that simple? While it will take some mindset work and self care, the answer is undeniably yes!
There is so much in this life that we cannot control, even though we try very hard to do so (I’ll save that for another blog post!). But there are a few things that are within our control that can truly help us to live a better life.
Give Yourself Permission to Let Go
Many of us struggle with our past. It could be poor decisions, unresolved conflicts or a multitude of other things. I want you to to realize today that it’s okay to let it all go, right at this very moment!
I know it’s not an overnight process, but what about committing to starting today?
Remind yourself with each and every step that you are not going to allow yourself to be held back by things in the past (a.k.a. things that cannot be changed).
There are so many beautiful things ahead for you – you just have to believe it!
Give Yourself Permission to Choose Your Life
This one is dedicated to all of my fellow people-pleasers.
- Do you look to others for advice on decision-making?
- Do you always feel like you have to do what someone else says?
- Does it cause you stress or anxiety when someone doesn’t like your decisions?
If you answered yes to the questions above, this is my plea to you. You need to give yourself permission to make your own choices.
If you live a life that someone else wants you to have, are you really living your own life? You’re actually living their life. That’s not fair to you. Most people have good intentions when they’re trying to provide help, but that doesn’t mean that they’re always correct.
It’s important to note that it is not a bad thing to talk to others about situations in your life, especially if you feel like you need some help sorting things out. It can just become a bad thing if you feel like you need their permission to make a certain choice or feel pressured to do so.
Give Yourself Permission to Fail
This is a big one, friends. I can feel even myself cringe at this one – but it’s SO necessary. None of us want to fail, we are likely striving for perfection. Here’s the thing: no one is perfect. In order to learn, sometimes we have to do that by trial and error. That’s okay!
Each time you have a hiccup on your goal-driven path, do not think to yourself, “I failed.” I want you to replace that negative thought with, “I learned something new today and I now have that in my arsenal for the future.”
The latter is going to help you shift your mindset to seeing that you’re actually making progress and this experience is going to help you move forward. Use that experience as a stepping stone.
I hope this post will help you commit to giving yourself permission to do things that allow you to live a happier, healthier life. You deserve the best, my friend!
If you gained something from this post, I would appreciate it so very much if you would give it a share!
Let’s Chat!
What’s something you want to give yourself permission for?
Does your fear of failure stop you from going after your goals?
Do you rely on others’ opinions to make your decisions?

Thank you so much, Jennifer!
Love this post! I am definitely a people-pleaser but have been slowly trying to change that. We really need to just love ourselves enough to take control of our life! 🙂
So happy you loved it! You are spot on. We tend to get so caught up in others that we forget we need to love ourselves!
I absolutely love this! It’s hard to sometimes give yourself permission!l but we need to!
Aww, thank you! So happy you loved it, Christina! ❤️ Absolutely, it can be very difficult, but so well worth it.
I have been working on this. It’s easier said then done I think.
That’s great, Andrea! Truly, it is difficult. It’s so worth working on though, and we will get there, day by day.
I so love all your points here! Letting go is so hard but things always turn out better than I expected. Thanks for the inspiration Ashley!

Thank you so much, Kathrine! 🙂 I agree with you, the things that are meant for us are usually so much better than we can even imagine.
So true! It’s unbelievable that we all agree on those three statements but they are not so easy to accomplish…
Thanks for reminding them to us 🙂

It is, Eli! They are each difficult tasks, but come with so many beautiful benefits if we put in the mindset work. Thank you so much for reading! 🙂
Yes! Sometimes we hold ourselves back.

So true, Rach!
This is so important! I think so many of us forget that we are the masters of our lives, and we can do anything we want to do. I know I have always struggled with giving myself permission to fail, and its something I am personally working on. Love this post so much!!

Me too, friend! It’s the toughest one for me. Thank you SO much, so happy you loved it!! 🙂
Giving myself permission to fail is such a big one for me! It really helps with anxiety and decision paralysis. As long as I try, it’s okay if I fail!
Me too, Danai! That’s right! It’s always better to try. I really feel like the only way we truly fail ourselves if when we don’t try at all, then we aren’t giving ourselves a chance.
I love the tip about giving ourselves permission to fail. I struggle a lot with perfectionism. I am often so overwhelmed by the fear of failure that I don’t manage to try new things or things I care about because I’m scared of failure. We truly cannot succeed without failing first <3

Hi, Jill! I have been there, my friend, it is so difficult because you feel like you’re sort of stuck. I believe in you! With just teeny-tiny steps towards doing things that you want to accomplish but are afraid of failing on, it will become an awesome domino effect! Sometimes it just takes that first step. You are so right – we are always learning new things, and I really like to look at the ‘fails’ as ‘learning experiences.’
To me, do all it takes positively to be and stay happy

Love this, Melody! It’s super important to invest in our time and energy into things that are bright, happy and positive.
This is such a great post! I love the message of giving yourself permission. I am always in a battle with myself to be productive. Always do something productive. It takes a lot for me to give myself permission to stop and rest. And sometimes it is just that shift in perspective that I need to exercise some self care. Thanks for the reminder!

I always feel like by failing, I learn so much! It can be hard, tho.
Carrie

Yes, I’m with you on both notes, Carrie! It’s a mindset struggle because we never want to mess up on anything, but at the same time, it teaches us how to navigate through whatever it is that we are working on. It truly helps us progress forward in a great way, if we can keep that in perspective.
This is a very interesting post. TBH I think too many people rest on the whole “It’s meant to be” or “It was a sign” when making decisions. Sadly this whole leaving it in the hands of fate when making decisions really takes the responsibility away from the individual and can lead to less well thought out results. I person can fail no one can say one won’t but at least if it was made a rational thought process as opposed to leaving it up to fate…

I agree with everything you’ve said, Allie! I remember back in the day when I sort of thought everything just came together as it was supposed to. Now while I do have faith in things working out, I realize that I have so much more power than I thought before and influence in making things happen for me. It just takes hard work, time, and planning things out to make your goals happen.
Failing happens to everyone, no need to worry about it. Such an inspiring post!

These are very important espeacially fail. Many people connect fail with them like a person and if they fail they think that they fail like a person, start to look at fail positive and give yourself permission to fail can change many lifes.

Thanks so much, Julia! Those are both awesome things to work on. I believe in you! 🙂 It’s all about mindset work and your perspective. It’s a struggle to balance it out, but so well worth it. I have no doubt that you do so great in what you do, and that you make great decisions.
We definitely hold ourselves back and it can create some limiting experiences + beliefs. I love this post!

Love this, Jill! I believe in you and know that you can do both of those things! 🙂
Hi Ashley, loved reading this post, especially the part ‘give yourself permissions to fail. As a blogger myself, I know how tough it can be to feel demotivated at all times, and it sometimes seems so hard to reach our goals with our endless to-do list. This was very inspiring. I really like your content and I am happy to have stumbled upon your blog.
Have a wonderful day! 🙂

I’m so happy you loved this post, Ana! I can definitely relate to that. It takes a village to run a blog, and we ourselves are that entire village sometimes. Thank you so much for your kind words and I’m so happy that you came across my blog, and I was able to come across yours! I really love it and feel like our blogs have a lot in common, so I will definitely be visiting yours often. 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend!
