With talks of the coronavirus happening right now, more than ever before, we need to learn how to live a positive lifestyle.
Each day, we are surrounded by negativity. Not necessarily by our own actions, but because life is filled with constant disruptions.
Some are more serious than others, but even the most minor inconveniences can lead us into a negative spiral in our headspace.
To be able to live a positive mindset, it requires some work from us:
- A willingness to change our current mindset
- A series of choices that will produce a positive mindset
- Trust the process and stay committed, no matter how tough life gets
The work that you put into yourself and creating a life that you love, you’ll never be sorry for!
You only get one shot at this, so choose to be positive and to be happy. To help, I’m sharing with you today how to welcome positivity into your life and become the very best version of yourself.
Know Your Worth
What’s on the inside, the stuff deep down inside of our hearts, gets projected to the outside through our words and our actions. This is why I put this as number one – you need to know your worth first in order to learn how to live a positive lifestyle.
If you’re constantly beating yourself up or thinking that you don’t deserve to be happy – you definitely won’t be.
I’m here to tell you that you are 150% worthy of being loved and being happy, and all of the good things that life has to offer. Spend time each day repeating that to yourself each day until you believe it.
Read positive affirmations, inspiring quotes, blog posts, or self-development books, etc.
Do things that are good for your soul and things that serve you well. You are worth it, and you deserve to live your life in the happiest and healthiest way possible!
Practice Daily Gratitude
Our brains are wired to see the negative before the positive. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t do a little re-wiring to fix that!
One of the most effective ways to notice all the good in your life is to practice daily gratitude. Many times, we get caught up in our day-to-day life and the chaos that ensues.
This can lead us to forgetting just how blessed we actually are. The things that you have now, likely someone is only wishing they had those things. Every situation can always be worse, and there is always someone out there that does have it worse than you.
Write a list of things you’re grateful for each day. It doesn’t have to be long – it could be 3-6 items.
Keep it in a gratitude journal, and then go back and review it each week and see all of those positive, wonderful things that you have to be thankful for.
Reason Before Reaction
You’ve heard this before, but it’s so important: Think before you speak, friends.
Remember when I mentioned those minor inconveniences earlier? They happen to each of us. It could be a flat tire on the way to work, or your babysitter cancelled at the last minute when you had something important scheduled.
It’s important to reason through the issue first, and then choose your reaction wisely. We don’t tend to think of these reactions as choices, but they definitely are!
You can choose to be upset about your flat tire and allow it to completely ruin the rest of your day OR you can choose to accept it, take the steps to get it fixed ASAP, and go on with your day. The second option will always serve you better.
Choose to Be Happy (Even When Bad Stuff Happens)
Making a conscious effort to create and maintain a positive mindset can be difficult, but it is so very rewarding. It is hard work, especially when life throws us a curveball completely out of left field.
I’m no longer talking about minor inconveniences – I’m talking about big things, like deaths of those you love, getting laid off from your job, issues with your partner, etc.
These are a tough to deal with, and aren’t as easy as shrugging them off like when you got a flat tire. However, that does not mean you can’t choose to be happy throughout all of the chaos.
It doesn’t mean that you do not care about the situation (sadly, some people think this!), or that you’re not concerned. It simply means that you’re working through it, and trying to keep the best attitude possible.
Feel Your Feelings
I really want to make a point that it’s important to know that your feelings are valid – whether they’re good, bad or indifferent.
I know we’ve talked a lot about making the choice to be happy, but that doesn’t mean that you should disregard your anxiety, your worries, sadness from being stuck indoors right now, etc.
Whatever it is that may be troubling you, you have every right to be sad, to not really be okay at the moment, or any emotion you may be feeling. It’s important to feel all of your feelings and allow yourself to process those feelings.
The thing that you need to remember is that you don’t want to stay in a bad place for an extended period of time. We must acknowledge our feelings, feel those feelings, process and work through them and push forward knowing that this too shall pass, my friend.
Express Kindness to Others
When people speak about karma, they tend to be talking about something negative that someone said or did. They want you to know that ‘what comes around, goes around!’
However, there’s a really good kind of karma that I much prefer, and it comes from simply being YOU and being kind to others. It will come back to you, my friend.
So many people are hurting right now, for many different reasons, and we often don’t even know what their reality looks like on a daily basis. Because of that, make a commitment to always be kind to others.
You may make someone’s day just with a smile or a kind word. It truly doesn’t take much to make someone else feel loved or cared for.
Especially during the time of the coronavirus, we should reach out to others. Be sure to text, call or video chat with your friends, loved ones and neighbors. Ask if they need anything, maybe groceries or even just an ear willing to listen to what they’re experiencing now.
You can make a difference in someone’s life, every single day!
Learning how to live a positive lifestyle can be difficult, especially with the way the world is right now. I know it’s scary that the coronavirus is so contagious, but do you know what else is contagious?
Positivity, smiles, laughter, and all sorts of other wonderful, amazing, bright and shiny things!
My hope for you today is that you will truly know your worth. If you don’t yet, make a commitment to start working on it TODAY! Commit to being the very best version of yourself daily. You can do this! 🙂

Gratitude is the key!! Something my dad has always said is: a grateful person is a happy person. I’ve found that to be so true throughout my life, and it’s certainly helping now 🙂

Lovely post. Having a positive mindset is essential in todays world.
One other thing we can do is surround ourself with good people who offer sound advice.
Also to seek professional help should certains matters in life consume positivity. Ie if you having financial problems speak to qualified financial advisers so that they can offer the right help.
Absolutely, Kemi. You are on point, both of those things are super important! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love this! A realistic guide into surviving the swings of quarantine. And I absolutely love the part of feeling your feelings, not denying what we feel. I just thought of making a group Pinterest board with resources like this one for quarantine, would you join?

Aww, I’m so happy you loved it, Natalia! That’s such a wonderful idea, I would love to join! Thank you so much for asking. 🙂
I would say be kind and respectful is very important now. By respecting other people we stay at home to not further spread the virus and we should be kind with everyone. It’s normal that we get stressed out so easily at the moment.
