Today, I’m sharing with you five ways to reset for fall and how to make the most of this beautiful season!
Just in case you missed my decluttering series leading up to this post, you can check them out below:
Each season feels like a brand-new beginning, making it the perfect time to do a little reset. There are tons of ways you can reset for fall, but here’s what I have in mind!
First, assess your current goals and take time to set new ones. Next, create an action plan to accomplish those goals you put together, as well as set new priorities that will set YOU up for success!
These things will help you to create a life you love and put you on a path to thrive, rather than merely survive, each day.
1. Assess Your Current Goals and Set New Ones
Fall is the perfect time of year to take a careful look at your current goals and evaluate them. Take a look at the categories I created below and see which one(s) fits you best. Regardless of which category you’re in, the fantastic news is that there’s always a way to move forward!
You Have Goals You Haven’t Started On
If you have goals that you haven’t pressed start on, let’s do a deep dive. Consider whether or not this goal is something you’re still interested in pursuing. Sometimes we set a goal just because we think we should (oftentimes influenced by others), rather than because we are passionate about it. If that’s the case, scratch it off the list and start pursuing other goals that you are actually passionate about! Life is too short to try to live someone else’s dreams – choose to live yours!
You Have Goals You’re Actively Working On
If you have goals that you’re currently working on, take time to assess your progress on each of them. Are you happy with how your goal is growing? Can you make it more simple or efficient to achieve? Remember, strive for progress versus perfection. Be proud of your accomplishments and celebrate them, both big and small!
You Don’t Have Any Goals Yet
If you don’t have any goals at the moment, now is the perfect time to start! And no, it’s never too late to start on your goals if that ran through your mind just now. We tend to get caught up in a special day, such as January 1st, to start something new. While that can feel like the best time to start something new, today is the most magical day to create your goals and start working on them (channeling my inner Lara Casey here!). Think of how much progress you could have by January 1st!
2. Create an Action Plan to Achieve Your Goals
Now that you have assessed your goals, it’s time to create an action plan to achieve them. Goals without plans are simply dreams. Instead of stumbling into opportunities, create a plan to make it happen on purpose!
Creating an action plan involves taking your goal and breaking it down into smaller, more manageable steps. You also want to create a timeframe for when you want to accomplish your ultimate goal. This will help you stay on track with planning!
- Speaking of planning, you all know how much I love Erin Condren products! I have their 7×9 LifePlanner and it helps me stay on track.
- I also am a big fan of Cultivate What Matters PowerSheets, a goal-specific planner!
Once you’ve determined the timeframe, write out all of the steps that you’ll need to take to reach that ultimate goal. Then, schedule those items into your daily planner and get started on making your dreams come true today! Check out this post to see how I break down my goals into mini-goals to accomplish them.
3. Do a Fall Refresh for Your Closet
Just like we need to reset and refresh our goals for fall, we also need to refresh our closet!
Clothing has a real impact on how we feel each day. It’s important to choose pieces that make you feel confident and happy. Think of the Marie Kondo method: does it spark joy in your life? If so, it’s essentially magic in your closet!
I recommend starting with a declutter of your closet first (remember my link up above!) so you’re only left with clothing that you love and actually wear. Now, you have more room for new staples to add to your wardrobe for not just this new season, but beyond! The fun thing about finding new staples is that you’re choosing things you can wear again and again in different ways.
4. Make Health a Priority
Health is such an important topic, and it should be a priority in each of our lives. Choosing to live healthy is not a one-size-fits-all type of lifestyle. You don’t have to live like someone you know who prioritizes their health, you can find your own way and totally love it!
Even small changes, such as incorporating 15 minutes of exercise of your choice, limiting fast food or restaurants throughout the week, adding in more fruits and veggies to your meals each week, can add up to huge life changes.
I think as women tend to get caught up on if we are “skinny” enough or “pretty” enough. We also mistakenly make those two words synonymous with one another. It’s important to think about making ourselves healthier and happier and focus on ways that we can accomplish that in a positive way.
5. Finally Live the Life You Love
While there’s much to discuss about getting to where you ultimately want to be in life, don’t forget to enjoy what you have in this very moment that you’re reading this!
Too often we think we will enjoy life when x, y, and z takes place – but sadly, our days are numbered and we don’t know when that final day will come. So even though I will always be a cheerleader for you working hard to create a life that you love, I also want to root for you in enjoying your everyday life!
Think about the things that make you happy and make time to do those things. Fit in the fun fall activities, time with your loved ones, cozy sweaters, yummy coffees, all the pumpkin-spice things, and anything else that brings joy to your life.
That’s a wrap on my five ways to reset for fall, friends! I hope that you enjoyed this updated post (can you believe I first published a version of this back in 2019?!) and it inspires you!
I have wanted to go back to some of my original posts and update them, and this one popped up first on my list after an automotive dealership shared my post over on their own blog recently. So neat and very kind! I think you can see it below the comments listed under Trackbacks. So feel free to check that out!
Let me know in the comments what resonated with you and what you’re looking forward to this fall!

Aww, so happy you loved this one, Martha! 🙂 I can completely relate, and sometimes it can be hard to stick to those actions even once you’ve written out, so it’s truly a process. You’ll do fantastic, my dear friend! I appreciate you!

That makes me so happy, Ashley! Glad it came at the right time for you, and hope that you’re having a great September so far! 🙂
Oh, I love this post! Sometimes I feel like the fall is more of a reset than the new year, because it is when the kids return to school and I can figure out some goals. I have a couple of goals (mainly house organization things) that I have paused that I want to get back on. I did get my closet refreshed for the fall though and I donated 4 bags!! I’ve been trying to be more present and just do more that I enjoy lately, which is hard for me sometimes!

Thanks so much, Carrie! Yes, back-to-school time makes it so helpful to get more done and you always are so productive and get a lot of your to-do’s ticked off! Those four bags are amazing, and I need to follow suit because I still have some more to go through in my closet just yet! Love that you’re working on being more present, it makes such a big difference, but you know that I can relate and it can be tough with the craziness that life brings us at times, haha!
The action plan to achieve my goal is a must.

Thank you so much Jodi, I appreciate it so much! 🙂
I myself decided to be more dedicated to my goals, especially improving the way I feel and creating healthier habits so I started writing a journal with weekly to-do lists and a daily water intake chart to help myself be more disciplined and motivated. As for the closet cleanout it is long overdue and I’m TERRIFIED of doing it because I know it’s gonna take me hours.

Oh, that is fantastic, Jelena! 🙂 I’m so happy for you, it can be truly therapeutic to track habits and write out what needs done, etc. On the closet note, I can definitely understand where you’re coming from! I recommend breaking the closet project way down into small to-do’s, like breakking it up into small sections and just allocate so much time each week to working through a section.
These are some beautiful tips for helping to make a person’s life better. Fall is my favorite time of year, and it seems to be when I reflect on the things I want to accomplish in life.
I can’t believe I didn’t know about your blog in 2019. 🙂 But I’m glad you’re still at it, and love reading your thoughts.
Aww, thank you so much Crystal! So happy that fall is your fave time of year and I can relate to it being a very reflective time.
I appreciate you being here along with me, friend, you’ve always been a great supporter ever since we first connected! 🙂

Aww, thank you tons Melissa! So happy you found this one helpful! 🙂
I love these ideas. I really need to do better about setting goals and using my planner. I did recently do a closet cleanout and the decluttering really helped me feel more grounded.
Jill – Doused in Pink
So happy you loved them, Jill! I totally understand, and it’s really all about finding what works best for you. Sometimes a notebook and just jotting down the main to-do’s works so well for people, just keeping things simple and easy. That is awesome on the closet decluttering, it really is a therapeutic process!!
